BMW guarantees 100% renewable energy in Europe

The BMW Group currently obtains 100% renewable energy at its production sites in Europe, a worldwide commitment that was set to expire in 2020. According to the company, the achievement will improve its environmental performance and meeting the expectations of stakeholders to support sustainable energy production.

This is not the first time the BMW Group has made a promise of sustainability. Since 2016, its headquarters in Austria has 100% green electricity. Meanwhile, the company has already been able to get energy from all plants in Germany and the UK exclusively from renewable sources, which means that all production sites in Europe only buy green electricity.

The priority is to produce its own energy, but if it is not possible due to technical and economic conditions, the company also buys renewable electricity from local sources.

To support the use of renewable energy in its supply chain, the group asked suppliers for information on carbon dioxide emissions and entered into agreements with them to increase the sharing of this type of energy.

Together with German manufacturer Viessman, the BMW Group has created Digital Energy Solutions, a company that offers the automaker's customers an initial competitive advantage based on efficient power management, sustainable solutions and intelligent user concepts.

The BMW Group is the main partner of the Sustainable Innovation Forum, which will be held in Katowice, Poland, on 9-10 December.
